In recent years, the prescription drug addictions of many public figures have come to light. One of the most tragic personal prescription drug addiction stories in recent years is that of radio commentator Rush Limbaugh. He achieved a level of fame, wealth, and influence that most people would envy, but he dealt with a privately devastating prescription drug addiction.

Rush Limbaugh is a prominent conservative talk show host and author. Around 20 million listeners tune into his radio show Monday through Friday. He wrote several books that have become bestsellers and have sold millions of copies. His conservative opinions (including calls for personal responsibility and clean living) and quick wit made him a national superstar; many people were shocked when it developed that he was addicted to drugs, himself.

Drug addiction is serious business. There is more to it than what anybody will share in an interview, book or in a movie. The fact is that drug abuse has become so prevalent in today’s society that most of us are able to spot someone suffering from a drug addiction and then shrug it off as if we hadn’t seen anything at all. Perhaps this is why so many addicts suffer without seeking help. It’s easy to think that your own community is insulated from things like drug abuse. The truth is that even the most picture perfect town has people living within its borders who are addicted to drugs.

In Delray Beach, Florida, there are many drug treatment centers that are available to those who are struggling with addictions to drugs and alcohol. These drug rehab programs can include both inpatient drug rehabilitation programs and outpatient drug rehabilitation services. They typically range from thirty days to ninety days depending on the depth of individuals struggles. Some alcohol and drug addiction recovery programs offer a faith-based treatment program to those clients who prefer to work the twelve steps and study scriptures in a safe and secure environment.

Drugs are basic elements of modern medicine. It’s difficult to imagine how infections can be treated, pain relieved, and depression alleviated without drugs. Each day, many lives are saved because of drugs. Even the seemingly insignificant problem of not being able to sleep can be solved with the use of drugs.

Indeed, drugs are life savers if used properly. But when abused or used illicitly, they can be “life takers.” The effects of drug addiction bring havoc to the user himself, to his family, and to society in general. While it’s true that the drugs which are subject to abuse keep getting stronger, even the prescription medications are not spared by illicit drug users.

Concerning addiction treatment, everybody seems to have an opinion on how to stop using drugs and alcohol. The problem is there are too many opinions.

If you fall, land on your arm, experience pain and see bone sticking out, it would be an obvious fact your arm is broken. Go to a hospital and there is about a 100% certainty your bone would be set and a cast put on. Obvious, right?

My drug addiction help is something that most people don’t seek until it is too late. Some wait until their loved one has hit rock bottom before even considering the need to find help that will get them to recovery. So many communities in the United States are filled with drug addicts and family who are in distraught about how bad their loved one is doing and yet they stand back and watch it happen without attempting to do anything. This is sometimes because they are afraid of what they will learn about the cause of the destructive behavior. It may that they don’t know where to turn. It also could be that they are fed up of trying so many times only to have the person relapse.

There are so many reasons why people do not seek treatment, but for the most part, they don’t care enough to do so even though it is tearing the family apart. My drug addiction help is available in so many treatment facilities in and around the local area where the drug addict lives. It is so easy to walk into a rehab clinic these days because there are so many government subsidy programs that are incorporated into their treatment programs. This allows them to offer the program for free especially if the person is eligible for it.

1. Drug abuse can cause disease of the brain. Continuous usage brings changes in the brain chemistry that results in a change of behavior. It alters the area of the brain responsible for self control, judgment, motivation, memory and learning. Thus, a person when high in drugs, is usually out of control. Emotions are like a roller coaster ride that can have an effect of extreme behavioral moods. Take a marijuana user for example. When he is “high”, it can cause extremes of either crying or laughter.

2. One major reason for a person to go into drug usage is to “escape reality”. Realities in life in the form of physical or emotional discomfort brought about by problems or series of negative crises in life can cause a person to go into depression.

The health problems associated with drug abuse are many and varied, as well a potentially lethal. Due to the nature of drug abuse, this tends to be about addictive drugs or drugs which are voluntarily pursued for some perceived benefit. This typically means long term exposure, and results in symptoms which have a great deal of overlap. Drugs which are ingested by smoking tend to result in increased lung problems, mouth and throat cancers, etc. Drugs that effect the central nervous system tend to list similar strings of symptoms involving psychotic behaviors, stimulants give increased risks of heart attacks and so forth. Another common thread is pregnancy. Drugs can have very strong adverse reactions in the unborn children and cause associated problems, which can kill the baby and mother, or lead to lifetime health problems. Additionally, there are strong effects from mixing drugs.

The most severe drug abuse crisis is nicotine. According to the National Institute of Health, approximately one in six deaths in the US are either caused or influenced by nicotine abuse. This results in 440,000 premature deaths a year. Lung cancer used to be a rare condition that few physicians ever saw. Smoking introduces a variety of dangerous substances into the body and harms just about every organ. Most notably, smoking will damage the lungs, increase the odds of mouth, tongue, throat and lung cancers and can have strong effects on blood circulation and oxygen transfer. Tobacco is the leading avoidable cause of death in the US.

Addiction is a disease that affects the lives of so many people, the numbers are staggering. Even more alarming is the fact that many addicts are in denial, which means that the number of people struggling with drug or alcohol addiction in our country could be far greater than we actually know.

The addict of drugs or alcohol is generally in a state of denial and believes that he or she can stop at any time. This is not true. Once an addict has begun the cycle of denial, they have entered the realm of addiction. Although they know it is wrong and they know the effects that drugs and alcohol can have on them both mentally and physically, they put these negative effects and consequences out of their mind and continue to use. This is the quagmire of addiction. How, then, does addiction work? Let’s take a brief look at what some of the determining factors are.

Many people with social anxiety disorder feel that there is “something wrong,” but don’t recognize their feeling as a sign of illness. Physiological effects, similar to those in other anxiety disorders, are present in social phobics. Social anxiety disorder can be so debilitating that it interferes with work, school and other routine activities. Social anxiety disorder may be linked to other mental illnesses, such as panic disorder , obsessive-compulsive disorder and depression. Signs and symptoms of social anxiety disorder can fluctuate over time. Physical symptoms include “mind going blank”, fast heartbeat, blushing, stomach ache. Cognitive distortions are a hallmark, and learned about in CBT.

Thoughts are often self-defeating and inaccurate. Some sufferers may use alcohol or other drugs to reduce fears and inhibitions at social events. Social anxiety disorder may co-occur with other anxiety disorders as well as depression. Additionally, people with social anxiety may develop problems with substance abuse or dependence when they use drinking or drugs to “self-medicate” their symptoms. Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), a class of antidepressants, are considered by many to be the first choice medication for generalised social phobia. Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) may be helpful in the treatment of social anxiety disorder. MAOIs and benzodiazepines may require more monitoring than other medications. Beta blockers are sometimes used with performance anxiety, a specific kind of social anxiety.
